I, too, was struck by how committed the individuals in the documentary were to the belief that they must be prepared for a Zombie Apocalypse. I mean the storage rooms and weapons and training seemed very intense and over the top! And, after reading Colin's blog post about "pseudo-events" taking the place of a focus on reality, I feel like people who are so committed to zombie training are doing just that. But the question still remains, why? You can certainly look at it as a hobby, in the same way some people golf several times a week or create scrapbooks. You can also look at it as living with a profound sense of fear and paranoia at all times. This then begs the question, why? Why are these people so afraid that it becomes necessary to prepare and train for hours on end? With the Trump presidency now looming before us, will the fear and paranoia and survival preparations become more heightened? And at the end of all this, how do we negotiate these situations with our students in the classroom or our children at home?
